Drug dealer who was swallowed drugs at KK Airport found guilty

THE 49-YEAR-OLD man who was recently arrested at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport for allegedly swallowing over 2kilogrammes of cocaine has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking.

Jacob Seg Mzinga, 49, appeared before the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with two counts of trafficking in narcotic substances and unlawful importation and exportation of drugs.

The consignment was in more than 100 pellets concealed in the accuse person’s stomach.

On July 22, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) said in a statement Mr Mzinga was apprehended for trafficking in cocaine which he concealed in his body through swallowing.

DEC Deputy Public Relations Officer Delight Haangala said in a statement that the suspect was apprehended at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on arrival from Brazil.

Ms Haangala said the suspect discharged 104 pellets of cocaine weighing 2.312 kilograms adding that more are expected to be discharged as the process is still ongoing.

When the accused appeared before magistrate Davies Chibwili today, he pleaded guilty to both charges and told the court that he committed the offence because he wanted to make ends meet for his family.

When the magistrate asked if he had any lawful authority to traffic in the drug, the accused person, who appeared sorry, said no.

Asked if he imported the drugs into the country, the Tanzanian man, who spoke through an interpreter, again admitted.

The matter was adjourned to Friday for reading on facts in the matter.

Mzinga will continue being in detention because the nature of the offence he is facing which does not allow for him to be granted bail.
