THREE suspects among them a police officer have been apprehended in Isoka for smuggling immigrants.
The police have also detained three immigrants from Burundi who were being transported by the suspects in a Toyota Corolla Axio registration number BBA 8411 ZM.
Muchinga Province Commanding Officer Kaunda Mubanga identified the immigrants as Never Nguzimana 35,Emmanuel Nichimbele 20 and Emeli Ndumukama who were traveling to Namibia.
Mr Mubanga said police officers at Isoka Mwaiseni checkpoint intercepted a vehicle which was being driven by Moses Phiri 26 who was with his elder brother Elias Phiri 29 a police officer and Nathan Chola 23.
He said when the vehicle reached the check point officers who were on duty noticed that there were three men in the car who could not express themselves in English or any Zambian language.
“On August 10,2023 around 16:45 hours officers on duty at Isoka Mwaiseni Check Point intercepted a motor vehicle which was being used to transport three migrants. The vehicle was being driven by Mr Phiri who was with his elder brother Elias Phiri, a police officer based at KKIA Airport Police Station and Mr Chola,”said Mr Mubanga.
He said the three Zambians and three immigrants were taken for investigations before they were detained.
