Mealie meal prices hit K305

MEALIE Meal prices have have hit K305 in some super markets in Lusaka. A check by this News Diggers reporter in some Shoprite, Cheers, PicknPay and Melissa found that the comodity was fetching between K232 and K305. 

In Kabwata area, Cheers supermarket was selling a 25kg bag of breakfast Mealie Meal at K237, while Shoprite in the same area was selling a K25 kg breakfast bag at K273. 

In Woodlands and Northmead, PicknPay and Melissa were selling a 25kg at K231 and K305 respectively. 

And in an interview, Citizens First president Harry Kalaba said citizens should brace themselves for harder times, projecting that the price of the commodity would hit K700 by December. “The people are in trouble.

How come we are exporting mealie meal to DRC when our supply is expensive?

Many people including other party members are surprised with this development .

PF party members have warned the UPND government to be very careful because this is what may bring them down.

When citizens are hungry they will not hear or see anything improving in this country until UPND does something to improve the economy and food security.

Mealie meal is the major food ingredient people use in Zambia so if it becomes expensive like that , how will a less privileged citizens going to survive? 

We know it’s lucrative to export mealie meal to other nations around but remember your citizens are staving. Our economy is not that good and most people are not in good employment so they will not afford such huge increase in mealie meal prices.
